Everglades
The art of plein air painting teaches one to observe the essence of a place that might be missed upon casual inspection. The Everglades is a place where without patient consideration the true beauty of the place could easily be overlooked.
The vegetation and wildlife in the park present the artist with an endless display of information from which to create a painting. From the pinelands to the marshes with their cypress domes, to the area known as "Ten Thousand Islands", the beauty is more subtle than in many National Parks. However, the Everglades hold many secrets which require more exploration to appreciate. Taking a "Slough Slog" through one of the many marshes or a kayak trip through the mangrove islands is a great way to experience with the vast array of wildlife that calls the Everglades their home.
My artist-in-residence at the Everglades National Park allowed me to more fully understand the incredible beauty of the park. I hope through my paintings I will pass a glimpse of the beauty and an appreciation of this national treasure on to my viewers!
The beauty of the Everglades does not shout at you but instead whispers its secrets.
